Reddick Allred’s heroics were not in what he did, but what he didn’t do. By not following the crowd, or even sound logic, he is credited with saving hundreds of Pioneer lives.
I am Tom Pettit. I love Church History and I love telling the stories because of the revealed truths, the clarity of God’s love for His children, and the inspiring stories of those early Saints.
GENE A SESSIONS says
Reddick Newton Allred is my gg grandfather. I appreciate you and President Eyring calling attention to his heroism in 1856. As you may know, when all this happened, he was serving in the bishopric of the Kaysville Ward and had been present a few weeks earlier when President Jedediah M. Grant commenced the famous Mormon Reformation during a conference there. George D. Grant, in charge of the handcart rescue, was President Grant’s brother, and Heber Jeddy Grant was President J.M. Grant’s last son, born just before the handcarts began to arrive in the fall of 1856.
